Developing Our Work Ethic
Every company, every workplace will see the character and personality if they want to hire someone, and it can be determined by looking at our work ethic. Integrity, honesty, professionality, how we communicate with each other and how we response to something are few examples of work ethic that people will see before they hire you. Even when you are working by yourself, you still need to have your work ethic to run and maintain your business. So, if you want to have money, it is important that you have a good work ethic.
Unfortunately, work ethic is quite difficult to be learned. However, it is not impossible to learn them. We can actually learn the work ethic in our daily school-life (of course, it is better to learn work ethic before you go to work). The first simple yet difficult step to do is to be punctual. It is not only to discipline ourselves, but it can actually teach us how to use our time in today 24 hours, so that we can reserve our energy in the next 24 hours (and the next 24 hours, and so on), so that we are not coming late. With doing that, we also learn to be responsible to the job by not procrastinating all the time and doing our tasks so that we don’t have to stay all night doing lot of tasks in one night. The second thing is to socialize with other people. In work place, you will meet another people with various of characters that probably can make you stressed out. By socializing in school-life, you will meet various kind of people, like the calm one, the noisy one, the rich one, and many more. With this, you learn to accept their flaw, so that you can work with anyone. The last thing, is to practice how we response to something. Learn how to deal with someone when they are down. Learn when you have to say “no” to someone’s offer. Learn to make a quick but good decision when something unexpected happens. Those are few things that you can learn to develop your work ethic.
To conclude, work ethic is very important to find a job. It will determine whether we can get hired or not, since people will always look for our work ethic. However, it’s also will make us a better person at everything that we do. Learning it is difficult and needs some time, but if we determined to do it, we can do it. Learning work ethic will make us a better person in character and personality, not only for working, but also for living our life.
